Dreaming a New Dream

Pause. Sense. Anchor.

We are living in times that the mythopoetic, the indigenous, and the ancients have spoken about for thousands of years.

Do you remember? It’s in our bones.

Many of us are feeling it- we are living in times of collapse. Multiple crises abound across our Living Earth-climate catastrophes, worsening weather events, wars, dictatorships, genocides. The magnitude of suffering is immense. I feel it with you.

Breathe. Feel. Release.

Although peril and helplessness are on the rise, another rising process is the death of systems and institutions that are unsustainable, such as capitalism, human supremacy, war-mongering, patriarchy, and ecocide. As activist Vanessa Machado de Oliveira writes in her book, Hospicing Modernity, we are being called to a powerful reckoning of our interconnectedness and righting of wrongs as a human species. We are called to revolution. To acknowledging that our fate is inextricably tied to one another’s liberation.

The world r(evolution) means a radical change in established order of things.

So where does this position us?

It’s time to dream a new dream, and the seeds of these dreams are held in our bodies. The overwhelm, fatigue, and disconnection we are experiencing isn’t something to just “regulate” so we can return to the status quo (that’s what the colonial powers would want us to believe). These sensory experiences are alerting us to that which is unsustainable and calling for true reconciliation. Systems change is required AND one of the ways that work begins is with liberating ourselves. When we don’t know what to do, start with the body. Start with the breath. Start with your own reclamation.

For those of you that know me, you know that I sit, study, and seek to embody the alchemy of life, death, and rebirth. Whether it’s bringing this energy continuum to my work with clients or during Brainspotting trainings, or communal group events, I, too, am in a place of letting that which no longer supports my life to fall away. In this intense period of shedding, new impulses are forging around my desire to use my voice more openly (something that has ancestrally been taken from me and my people and incites a great deal of fear). I have urges to grow my own food, to pivot from modernity, to loaf, to rest, to write, to dance, to release attachments to the material. To show up in ways that nurture my all-too-often sick body and break free from institutional exploitation (also known as “burnout”).

I am reminded from somewhere deep in my cells that I/we were born for these times (sometimes I wish I wasn’t, though?). I am reminded that those of us incarnated at this particular moment in history are here to speak, write, dance, heal, act, nurture, invent, and guide a new humanity into being and to seek right relationship with all life. I’m remembering you.

So, what dreams are you dreaming into the new world?

In honor of new dreams, we have curated several new offerings for you. My partner, Greg and I launched Awakened Roots last year- the holistic wing of Awaken Consulting Services. Along with psychotherapy and Brainspotting trainings, we are offering breathwork, Reiki, craniosacral therapy, psychedelic integration, intuitive/shamanic sessions, and kambo (sapo) ceremonies.

We hope that our offerings can offer rooted and nourishing spaces to help you remember and reimagine your true nature, to help you birth your new dreams.

From my chrysalis to yours,

Mari
